Another month, another strong sales period for Volkswagen. Spurred by a variety of new Volkswagen models, the German automaker saw sales increase 35-percent across the board in the first quarter of 2012.
Here at Lindsay Volkswagen of Dulles, we certainly noticed, as many drivers from Sterling, Alexandria, and Fairfax stopped by to check out models like the 2012 Passat, Motor Trend's Car of the Year, which sold 10,032 units, while the popular Volkswagen Jetta had a robust 12,947 units sold.
In total, the month of March alone saw sales reach 36,588 units, capping off a successful first quarter for Volkswagen. That growth is expected to continue; both in terms of cars sold, and job creation. Volkswagen estimates that up to 800 new factory jobs could be added in order to keep up with the steady demand for the vehicles across the United States.
While the Passat and Jetta are certainly carrying the torch, other Volkswagen models performed exceptionally well, too. The 2012 Tiguan sold 2,659 units, making it the best March ever for the efficient SUV. Its compatriot on the Volkswagen SUV lineup, the Touareg also had a strong month, seeing an increase of 53.9 percent in sales as well.
