The Volkswagen ID.4 EV is more popular than ever in Tysons Corner and beyond, and Volkswagen is doubling down on its commitment to electric mobility with a series of sweeping new upgrades! The company recently announced that they were making enhancements to almost every part of their electric vehicle efforts, from home charging to public fast charging to interior software upgrades. They also laid out the groundwork for their future electric plans, including committing to renewable energy sources in Europe and making plans to electrify at least 50% of their units sold in the United States. Lindsay Volkswagen of Dulles has everything you need to know about the new Volkswagen ID.4 charging and software enhancements in the guide below.

Volkswagen Electric Mobility: Major Announcements

There were several significant announcements that Volkswagen made regarding their electric mobility efforts, which we’ve listed below. Some of the company’s latest efforts are exclusively for the European market, but we’ve included them anyway in case they eventually find their way to Springfield! Check out the details:

  • Home charging: If you drive an EV, chances are that you do most of your electric vehicle charging from home. Volkswagen recognizes this, which is why they’re working on a smart Home Energy Management System designed to manage your home’s power supply (including charging your EV) so you don’t have to lift a finger. VW will also introduce bidirectional charging, an innovative technology that allows your EV to give excess energy back to your home power grid rather than letting it go to waste!
  • Charging on the go: Thanks to DC Fast Chargers and Volkswagen’s partnership with the Electrify America network, it’s easier than ever to take care of your Volkswagen ID.4 charging outside the house if needed. Volkswagen is installing a huge new network of nearly 18,000 public chargers in Europe by 2025, equipped with completely wireless billing technology to eliminate the use of cards entirely. Although these plans are only for the European market, for now, Volkswagen may bring this new technology over to the United States before long.
  • New software: Volkswagen is making improvements to their electric vehicle charging infrastructure from inside the vehicle as well. These improvements include increasing the battery’s maximum power rating for faster charging, a new Battery Care Mode, an upgraded charging menu on the infotainment system, and new route planning capabilities based on the availability of public chargers.
  • Committing to electric power: Finally, Volkswagen announced new commitments to electric mobility by supporting the expansion of solar and wind farms in Europe, investing nearly 40 million euros into renewable energy by 2025, and promising that electric vehicles will comprise half of all Volkswagen vehicles sold in the United States by 2030.
